Exposure to Polyhalogenated Hydrocarbons and Incidence of Selected Malignancies

Increased polyhalogenated hydrocarbons were found in breast milk fat samples collected in the Uherské Hradiště (UH) District compared to that of five other sampled regions throughout the Czech Republic. The content of lipophilic xenobiotics corresponded to the values detected in breast milk samples in Eastern Slovakia, Michalovce District, that were collected according to the same protocol within the 5th FP PCBRisk QLK 4-2000-00488. The Michalovce District revealed lower than expected incidence of breast and prostate malignancies. The Influence of Smoking on Dental and Periodontal Status

Using the method of the cross-sectional epidemiological study in randomized sample of an adult population an influence of smoking on the oral health (namely the periodontium and teeth) was followed. This study consisted of two parts, a selfreported questionnaire inquiry and clinical examination carried out ensured by uniformly instructed dentists. Dental status and periodontal status were assessed by DMF (Decayed, Missing, and Filled Teeth) and CPITN (Community Periodondal Index of Treatment Needs) indices. Dietary Dose of Selenium in Seniors with Oncological and Diabetic Diseases

Selenium is an essential trace element the insufficiency of which is related to numerous serious disorders including oncological diseases and diabetes mellitus. Selenium intake was followed up in the food of said patients in the span of ten days during a summer period and another ten days during a winter period. In the analysed time all meals were prepared from 111 kinds of foodstuffs. The main sources of selenium in both diets were food groups of meat and meat products, cereals, and milk and dairy products which subsidized daily selenium intake by more than 80%. Ultraviolet Radiation and its Health Impact

The present state of knowledge of health consequences connected with human exposure to UV radiation is summarized. The danger of cancer promotion is emphasized and an overview is given of different types of skin neoplasia connected with excessive UV exposure. Due to that significant health risk, additional exposure using artificial sources of UV radiation (sunbeds) appears dangerous and hence undesirable. A Tool of the Public Health Protection Body for the Quality Evaluation of Health Risk Assessment (HRA)

The article is focused on evaluation of health risk assessment by public health workers and describes a questionnaire, developed by the author, which should simplify evaluation of presented assessments and contribute to improving the effectiveness and quality of work conducted by public health protection facilities and hence improved public health protection.
