Young Men's Drinking Habits

The study presents results of anonymous field research of young men's drinking habits (conscripts).The objective of the study was to find out the fluid intake habits of the conscripts prior to military service and how these habits are modified by long-term stay in relatively enclosed community of young men just after leaving family they have grown in.A positive finding is the daily amount of non-alcoholic drinks consumed in average by the group of recruits. The relatively high percentage of men who regularly consume soft drinks is problematic. The popularity of sweetened drinks is also affirmed by the fact that most of the young men drink sweeten...

Analysis of the European Experience with the Health for All Policy for the 21st Century

Brief information is given on the European WHO study of implementation of the Health for All policy framework in the European region carried out in 2003-2004. The study showed great diversity of approaches to policy implementation in the member states and brought a wide range of experience to be generalized. The results became a challenge for the last update (2005) of the Health for All policy framework for the European region.

Unclear Case of Health Damage at the Ice Stadium in Třebechovice pod Orebem

Health damage inflicted upon persons present at an ice-hockey match held at the ice stadium in Třebechovice pod Orebem (eastern Bohemia) in December 2006 is reported. Several on-the-spot investigations and indoor air measurements were carried out. The participants of the respective ice-hockey match, i.e. players, referees and spectators, were interviewed. Medical records of several afflicted persons were analyzed. Nevertheless, no unambiguous conclusion could be drawn as the found increased concentration of nitrogen dioxide had not been unequivocally identified as the cause of the reported health complaints. Inequalities in Health

Presented is a brief review of the significance that is being given to inequalities in the health policies of the EU and WHO. Mentioned is the history of interest in such problems and the participation of the Czech Republic, namely of the NIPH in their detection and analysis. Outlined are the major pathways for resolving such inequalities and accented is inter-branch collaboration.
