The world highest incidence of kidney carcinoma in both sexes is found in the Czech Republic. In a case control study there were evaluated selected risk factors of kidney carcinoma in a group of patients from Olomouc and České Budějovice. The series consisted of 635 people, 300 kidney carcinoma cases and 335 controls. Health Risk Assessment of Chemical Substances from Removing of Old Environmental Loads Using the Dispersion Model
Denisa Pelikánová, Zdeněk Fiala
Hygiena 2010, 55(4):117-123
The aim of the study was to build a two-dimensional view of potential health risk stratification associated with inhalation exposure of the population living in surroundings of a refinery-waste dump. Methods: For that purpose there was used a combination of air pollutant concentrations and the dispersion model of substances in the environment. The monitoring of selected contaminants was realized in the place of old environmental loads and in the nearby residential area. The zones of concentrations were modeled by using an air dispersion program. Subsequently, the concentrations were converted by the PC program into a two-dimensional projection of the...
Transport Isolator with a Closed System of Ventilation for the Transportation of Patients with Highly Virulent Infection
Radek Bárta, Peter Bednarčík
Hygiena 2010, 55(4):124-129
The transport isolator is used for the isolation and transportation of a patient with highly virulent infection. It must ensure transport team safety and complete isolation of the infected patient from the surrounding environment. A successful outcome of the transportation depends on the availability of a transport isolator that enables the maintenance of vital functions and safe in-transport care. Transport isolators with an open system of ventilation using HEPA filters have been developed, having an air flow of about 120 litres per minute. Nevertheless, a HEPA filter cannot fully cope with a large air exchange and poses a risk of the infectious agent...
Lifestyle of Women during the Life Course
Klára Papežová, Veronika Němcová, Halina Matějová
Hygiena 2010, 55(4):130-135
The lifestyle is of utmost importance to human health. Health inequalities may result from the differences in living conditions that are not of the individual's own choosing and are often very difficult or even impossible to change. Nevertheless, what is modifiable is the occurrence of the risk lifestyle factors that increase the likelihood of developing a variety of diseases. The lifestyle is chosen by the individual who should be aware of risks associated with inappropriate health behaviours. The above-mentioned risk lifestyle factors are in particular tobacco use, alcohol abuse, overweight and obesity, lack of physical activity, and inappropriate...
